My Dear Creative Souls:

We’re halfway through 2025, and the creative space is undergoing a metamorphosis. Artificial Intelligence is rapidly encroaching on your canvas. But hang on, because it cannot eclipse your headspace (as yet). I’m referring to your native intelligence – a.k.a. your creativity, your originality, that spark of pure inspiration that comes straight from source.

While the majority of people are worried that AI will “steal” their creativity, I believe that the opposite holds true – AI is a catalyst for true originality in the creative space – and democratizes it. What on earth am I talking about?

True originality lies in what does not already exist – your work is art precisely because it breaks norms and boundaries. AI can’t think up something new – it can only draw on a dataset that already exists. However, AI does offer you a gamut of tools to exercise your creative instincts in a cost-effective and time-effective manner. AI can create a likeness of da Vinci or Van Gogh – but it cannot tap into the original thought that is simmering in your mind.

Script to score to screen, the AI ecosystem is a launchpad for your creative potential.

As a result, it pushes artists to be truly different, taking away the scaffolding of existing form as we know it, to innovate in ways that has never been seen before. On the flip-side it provokes the audience to level up their appreciation for creative works and establishes new paradigms of thought.

I also like to think of AI as a filter. It allows you to discern what’s already out there, so that you can sharpen, refine and enhance your originality to the maximum degree. It extracts the pure essence of your originality, separating the wheat from the chaff.

Creativity is fluid. It’s meant to be shared. But sharing and stealing are two different things. Sometimes we get so caught up on whether someone is going to “steal” our work that it inhibits the creative process. This is where blockchain actually helps you to unblock your potential, while safeguarding your creation. So how does blockchain timestamping actually work?

Let’s say you’re an author and have just finished your manuscript. You’ve decided to go ahead and publish it online. But wait  -- can AI scrape it and replicate it? Well, yes. Not only can that scenario occur, you may not even know that its happening. Blockchain timestamping pre-empts that occurrence, because a blockchain timestamp is a tiny piece of your data that is stored across all the blocks in the chain.

This allows anyone to trace its authorship back to you, and any attempts at plagiarism can immediately be verified and halted.

In fact, in 2025, blockchain timestamping has evolved immensely, increasing its precision to a granular degree. Your timestamp states the exact moment that it was created, and as a result, your manuscript is immutable, ensuring that no one can tamper with it. The latest enhancement is quantum clock synchronization, which allows for microsecond level precision. Also, the Universal Blockchain Time Protocol has standardized timestamps across the majority of blockchain platforms, leading to better cross-chain interfaces, leading to higher precision and reduced time for verification by a significant degree. New advancements such as temporal oracles (oracles act as a “bridge” or a conduit, connecting the blockchain to external data sources primarily to facilitate the real-world execution capability of smart contracts).

It’s traceability and smart contract function allow you to retain your rights and ensure that you are duly compensated for every transaction. This can even translate beyond your own lifetime, so that your heirs can benefit from your creative legacy.

Another thing that blockchain does for you is that it breaks down the intermediaries’ bias and allows you to explore a work’s relevance directly with your audience. Let’s say you’ve written a book that doesn’t fit into the publisher’s egg-carton. It hasn’t been “made marketable” and as the author, you prefer to simply put it out there in its original form. In that past, this would have been next to impossible, but in today’s world, this is a simple reality. You share your art directly, garnering your own niche audience and following.

Instead of relying on the intermediaries following and feeding it what the intermediary thinks it wants, this gives the creator complete freedom to develop their own relationship with their community.

Of course, between blockchain and AI, the entire creative ecosystem is experiencing a massive overhaul.

What happens to the gallerists, publishers, distributors and managers who subsist off the creative space?

What happens to the lawyers, financiers and production houses that have founded their empires on artistic creativity?

And what happens to the audience? Those wonderful people whose “ticket price” contributes to the momentum of the creative movement?

The shift is upon us and it’s here to stay. So, the only question that remains, Creative Soul, is how are you going to shape up and shake up the status quo? I leave you to chew on that thought…

Sincerely,

Your blockchain BFF
